Note: Yellow blocks represent sessions at the Pre-Conference Leaders Institute (Chapter Leader ticket holders), and Green blocks represent sessions at the Professional Development National Conference (YNPN Member and General Admission ticket holders).

Reducing Crime through Transitional Employment

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Transitional employment is a missing piece of the re-entry and workforce development conversation.  RecycleForce operates an electronic waste recycling social enterprise that employs the hardest to serve, medium to high individuals returning from incarceration, in a transitional employment program.  The success of the program has been inarguable - with low rates of recidivism, high employment and earnings, and paid child support, this model has the potential to be replicated in other markets.  Over the past 12 years, RecycleForce has created a recipe for creating a transitional jobs program: 1) livable wage, 2) flexible employment, 3) industry recognized training, 4) peer mentors, 5) connections to full time employment through a staffing organization.  Armed with data from a congressionally funded RCT, RecycleForce provides a solution at the intersection of public safety and workforce development while recycling more than 7 million pounds of electronic waste per year.
